SMARTNET NODE LIST ONLINE UTILITY
FOR PCBOARD 15.0
written by Eric Leitner and Paul Waldinger
This utility requires PCBoard 15.0 or higher to operate. Written
in Clark Development Company's PPL (PCBoard Programing Language) this
utility is designed to be installed one or any of the various CMD.LST
files which you have created in the PCBSetup. (Consult the Clark
Development Company documentation for further details and instructions
on installing the CMD.LST files).
Why a PPE file and not a door?
==============================
Quite simple, doors are SLOW to the user no matter how fast your
system configuration can be. Why, because in most cases unless you have
the available RAM to shell to your door program, you must exit the
PCBoard code; load your door program and load PCBoard again on exiting
the door. One thing we all know, users do not have patience to allow
your system to unload and load various programs.
With PPE files, one of the major (if not the most advantageous)
addition to the PCBoard 15.0 code, sysops are able to install small
utilities directly to their systems which will execute by request of the
user without unloading their code. The result is a quick and smooth
interface between the system and user.
Included files for this PPE program.
====================================
The following files must be placed in the SAME subdirectory as
the SMARTNET.PPE file. You can include them in a directory all their
own if you wish to keep your hard disk organized or dump them into one
\GEN directory. (We HIGHly recommend that you create a specific directory
for this and each of your PPE files.)
SMARTNET.PPE
SMRTMENU
HLPSMRTN
SMRTPPE.DOC This file
Files that will be also needed in this directory
SMRTxxxx.ZIP The CURRENT Smartnet Node List in ZIPped or
compressed form.
NODE.LST The UNcompressed Smartnet Node List file
contained within the above SMRTxxxx.ZIP file
Installing this PPE file on your system.
========================================
Before continuing, take a few moments to review the installation
of PPE files into the CMD.LST files in the PCBoard documentation.
The name of this PPE file should be "SMARTNET"
Insert the path to these files in the path statement of PCBSetup.
Save and Exit PCBSetup.
Unzip the node list from the latest copy of SMRTxxxx.ZIP by
using PKUNZIP SMRTxxxx.ZIP NODE.LST.
Once you have completed these two simple steps, the PPE is
installed and ready for your users to enjoy.
File Distribution
=================
We provide this PPE for all systems to display to their users.
Smartnet sysops are invited to call SOM (the host of Smartnet) or any
of the Smartnet hubs to obtain the latest copies of this file and the
Smartnet node lists and associated files and programs.
Sysops that are interested in learning more about the Smartnet
Network are invited to call ANY of the hubs listed in the Smartnet
Node List as provided by this utility. Applications are readily
available and there is no fee for carrying this network.
